Emissions reduction targets
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.
- Reduce absolute carbon emissions by 2.5% by 2027.
- Reduce business travel carbon emissions by 10% per capita by 2027.
- Reduce energy use per square metre by 10% by 2027.
- Purchase 50% of purchased electricity (1.3 tCO2e) from verified renewable sources by 2027.
- Reduce consumption and waste with 60% waste generated recycled to reduce landfill.
- Reduce single-use plastics, and packaging and increase the recyclability of products by 90%.
- Reduce energy usage over the next 3 years by 5% through increased staff awareness, homeworking, and LED lighting replacement.
- Reduce scope 3 emissions by 15% through increased home working, remote delivery, use of other forms of transport, public transport, car share, electric vehicles.
- Use of online resources instead of printed materials wherever possible.
- Exploring the introduction of a salary sacrifice electric vehicle scheme to support employees to access electric vehicles more cost-effectively and support staff to reduce their own carbon emissions.
- Source 100% materials from and manufacture products within the UK (or relevant region) to reduce carbon emissions and improve supply chain transparency by 2026.
- Biodiversity initiatives developed or supported in the PA local area.
- Due diligence is to be carried out on 100% supply chain suppliers to ensure they have a clear and time-bound commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 8.88 tCO2e by 2027. This is a reduction of 30%.
Our Carbon Reduction Plans will be reviewed and updated annually with SMART targets to reflect changes in our organisational structure and to take account of the efforts made to reduce our emissions over time. We will provide half-yearly reports, detailing the activities undertaken to reduce this impact. We will ensure that the same reporting period is used throughout the submission, to ensure the most accurate and meaningful data can be used in the completion of our Carbon Reduction Plans.
Doctors Relocate will also report our progress annually through published progress reports.
Carbon Reduction Projects
Our Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2021 baseline;
- Launched an Environmental Policy which outlines our commitment to minimising the negative environmental impact of our activities.
- Increased our hybrid working approach for staff, which supports home-working and brings a reduction in the amount of carbon generated through employee commuting.
- Joined the Cycle2Work scheme, which provides employees with significant savings on the cost of a bicycle, encouraging them to this use mode of transport rather than drive.
- Prioritising digital/virtual meetings whenever possible to reduce our business travel.
- Transitioned to the use of online resources instead of printed materials wherever possible.
- Removed the use of all single-use plastic cutlery from our office kitchen and replaced them with eco-friendly alternatives.
- Stocking food – such as fruit and vegetables which are grown locally – from shops and markets in our community to reduce the need for fuel-intensive transportation.
Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives
We continue to seek and evaluate opportunities to minimise our carbon footprint and hope to implement further measures such as:
- Introducing an annual internal training programme so that staff remain aware of our current environmental goals, thus creating an environmental culture and providing employees with the tools to allow them to take into consideration the environment in all decision-making processes.
- Increasing our hybrid/flexible working policy to further reduce employee commuting emissions
We are also exploring the use of a salary sacrifice electric vehicle scheme to support employees to access electric vehicles more cost-effectively and support staff to reduce their own carbon emissions.
